RML and iCure speed up detection of diabetic retinopathy
At the initiative of the Local Multidisciplinary Network of Liège, iCure’s Cardinal solution, dedicated to the development of digital health applications, has made it possible to solve the challenges linked to the interoperability of heterogeneous systems in record time.
Interoperability between a specialized AI, a retinograph and an integrated medical record speeds up screening for diabetic retinopathy, saving time for healthcare professionals and improving data security.
Testimonial from Sabrina Gibilaro, Diabetes Nurse Educator at GLAMO-RML
“The automated retinograph circuit connected to artificial intelligence in the medical record has profoundly changed our daily practice in diabetic retinopathy screening.
- The patient's journey is now fluid and secure, from arrival to the return of results.
- Identification and access to the medical record are automatic, via secure authentication.
- Retinal image capture is fast and standardized.
- AI-assisted analysis is immediate, with a high level of accuracy for the detection of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic maculopathy.
Results are automatically integrated into the patient's file, without any manual intervention on our part. They are directly accessible to the GPs and specialists concerned, guaranteeing optimum continuity of care.
Thanks to this complete automation, we have reduced the time spent on administrative tasks by 50%, and eliminated the risk of coding errors.
The entire process complies with health data security requirements, which is essential for patient confidence and traceability of information.
As a professional in the field, these gains in efficiency, diagnostic accuracy and quality of care are a major advance for our daily practice."

About the RML:
The local multidisciplinary network brings together professionals from different disciplines, each offering their own specific expertise in the management of chronic illnesses.
The term “network” indicates that these professionals collaborate not only with each other, but also with the patient, in order to give him or her the means to manage their chronic pathology in the best possible, personalized way. The RML helps build this care network, and strives to encourage interaction and communication between all those involved.
The RML Liège began its activities in February 2010, as an offshoot of the ASBL GLAMO (Groupement Liégeois des Associations et des Médecins Omnipraticiens), which represents 240 general practitioners in central Liège. At the end of 2011, it joined forces with AMGBM (l’Association des Médecins Généralistes de la Basse-Meuse), which represents 90 doctors. The RML is based in the GLAMO on-call centre at Quai Edouard Van Beneden, 25, 4020 Liège.
